What is rectified tile?

The trend in flooring now is to use rectified tile, laid very close together, edge to edge with very tiny grout lines. Rectified tile has gone through an additional step during the manufacturing process to assure each tile is exactly the same size. Their calibration is exact. A tight grout joint can be run without driving the installer crazy.

It gives your space a larger, more rich feel, as opposed to the older style tile which has 1/4 grout lines between them. Non-rectified tile does not have the carefully calibrated edges, so larger grout lines are necessary in order to hide these differences.

With non-rectified tiles, the tiles may not be perfectly uniform in size. Slight variations in tile size, coupled with rigid tile spacer, can throw a grout line off a tad over the course of tiling a floor. Because of this, we never use spacers on a floor, we always grid the floor and work off the grid using lasers.

If you can afford rectified tile, it is always a better choice.
